My work focuses on the personal images we upload to social media and the trust we place in social media corporations, who often misuse and sell our data as a commodity for their own interests. In ‘Stranger Sound’, I have sent my data to a family member, an acquaintance and a stranger and told them to use, change and manipulate it in any way they see fit. The images are then converted into sound to exemplify how disturbing these changes are. The transformation of image to sound is a parallel notion of transformation of our data into corporate profits. We don’t trust strangers with our information and images so why do we trust Facebook and Instagram?
