We are so lost in our “social life” that we start missing out on real people and real relationships. Social media is a medium where people can learn up to the minute info about others without having real life encounters. This leaves less room for authentic interactions, opening us up to ambiguity and uncertainty. Niamh’s work explores a hidden sense of peculiarity behind how trapped and isolated someone might feel and even their closest family members may be totally unaware of it. Her use of underwater photography explores a new world of creativity and expression and makes us question; What is going on here? Suddenly we are curious of what is going on both in the photograph and around us, instead of what is going on on our phone screen.
